Coronavirus Update

Hello

We are sorry to say that due to the latest coronavirus restrictions the Language Cafe will be closed until after Easter. Please do not come to the Open Learning Centre for any more cafe sessions during March.

Please check this blog or the Lexicon Network Facebook page for information on when the cafe will restart next term. You can also phone the Open Learning Centre directly on 01344 354220 for the latest information.

We hope you and your families stay well and have a good Easter.

Change of Venue – Social Event

Hi everyone

This is an update to the last posting, about a change to the social event on Tuesday 10th March. We will now be meeting at South Hill Park, which is a large arts centre to the south of Bracknell. It is well-signposted and has a lot of free parking. We will meet at 7pm on the Terrace at the back of the main building. If the weather is bad we will meet inside the Atrium Bar.

The postcode for the venue is RG12 7PA, and their website is southhillpark.org.uk

We hope to see you there!

Best wishes

Half Term Holiday

Hello

Just to remind everyone that the cafe won’t be on next week – 17th and 20th February – as it is the school half-term break.

We will be back again from Monday 24th February and look forward to seeing you that week.

Best regards

Christmas Party

Hello everyone

Just to say thank you to everyone who came to the Language Cafe Christmas Party on Monday 16th December. We had a tombola, played some games and then ate the lovely food that people had made and brought along. A really great event to end the term!

Have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year. Just a reminder – the cafe starts up again from Monday 13th January 2020.

Cafe News – December 2019

We had a lovely evening out at Tang’s this week, so thanks to everyone who was able to come. There were 17 of us altogether, a great turnout of students and volunteers.

Christmas is approaching fast, so here is some information about the end of term:

The final session for students will be Monday 16th December, and this will be a festive celebration for all, so please come even if you normally come on a Thursday. We will be playing some games and there will be food and drink, so if you would like to bring some food to share, please do. The session will run at the usual time, 10 am – 12 noon.

Thursday 19th December will be a meeting for volunteers only, not for students, 10 am onwards.

We will be returning in the New Year from Monday 13th January 2020. We hope you are enjoying coming to the cafe and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Best wishes

Cafe News October 2019

We’ve now reached half term holiday week, so there are no classes during the week of 28th October. The cafe starts up again as normal from Monday November 4th.

Also, we’re planning an early Christmas meal on Wednesday 27th November, from 7 pm at Tang’s restaurant in The Lexicon, Bracknell town centre. Tang’s is a great place to meet and eat, as there is a fantastic choice of food in a ‘help yourself’ style buffet. For more details see their website at tangsbuffetbracknell.co.uk

We will be talking about the meal when we meet back after half term, and giving you all the details you need then.

Meanwhile, have a great half term holiday!

Best wishes, Julie and Carolyn

Autumn Term 2019

A warm welcome to all our students and volunteers now that the autumn term is under way. We have a lot of new students which is great to see, as well as students from last term.

We are now into Week 3 for the Language Cafe, and have been talking about typical greetings, everyday phrases for different situations, and good manners. We will be moving on in the next few weeks to look at some of our customs and celebrations, including Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night.

We hope that you are all enjoying the cafe, and if you have any suggestions for topics, please let us know.

Best wishes

Autumn Term 2019

Hi everyone

Hope you had a good summer and are looking forward to a new term at the cafe. We start again from Monday 16th September at the Open Learning Centre, on Monday and Thursday mornings from 10 -12.

Please note that there are building works going on in the cafe area so we will probably be in a different room to start with. Reception staff will be happy to point you in the right direction!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again, and of course meeting new joiners,

Julie and Carolyn
