Links for Zoom sessions 25th and 28th Jan 2021

Next week we are talking about social media and keeping safe online. There are some useful short videos you can watch which will help you prepare for the sessions:

Advanced group. Topic: Cyberbullying. Please watch and follow the stories of these 2 14 year old girls. Make a note of any useful words.

Here are some to help you: repercussions = consequences/duped = deceived/Fixers – Organisation helping people to keep safe online/deal with online abuse/explicit images = pictures with sexual/inappropriate content/wyd = what are you doing?

a dark side to social media/fake accounts/hurtful things/direct messages/to mess with/ joke around

This video is about sexting and is for the middle/advanced students:

The video below is for all students as the text is written on screen. Please note some of the spellings are wrong as this is how some people write in text messages.

Please view this and write down vocabulary. We are going to discuss Social Media on Monday

This is a difficult subject to talk about but it is important for everyone to know how to keep themselves and their children safe online.

Hope to see you on Monday or Thursday!

Next week we will be talking about British habits and customs, and also when to use the verbs ‘make’ and ‘do’.

Here are some links to videos which will help you prepare for the sessions:

This first one is simpler so is more useful for the Monday class students – beginner and medium level.

This one is longer and quite detailed.

Finally, this video is great for explaining the difference between ‘make’ and ‘do’:

Hope you enjoy the videos and see you next week!

Zoom classes 11th and 14th January – extra info

Hi everyone,

1st Zoom Sessions Next week: Don’t forget, our topic is about New Year’s Resolutions and looking back on last year. Many students get confused about whether to use the verb “make” or “do“. Note these uses of “make”, using verbs of formal/informal decisions/agreements:

to make a decision

to make a New Year’s resolution

to make an agreement

to make an oath

to make vow

to make a promise

to make a contract

Please look each of these up and make sure you know what they mean.

Hope to see you next week!
